massage therapy downers grove

Massage therapy is a hands-on practice that involves manipulating muscles, soft tissues, and ligaments to enhance a person's well-being. Through various techniques, the goal is to alleviate tension, reduce pain, and promote relaxation. Beyond its physical benefits, massage therapy often contributes to stress reduction, improved circulation, and increased flexibility, making it a holistic approach to supporting both physical and mental health.

Deep Tissue/Sports Massage

Deep-tissue massage relieves severe tension in the muscle and connective tissue. It focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep-tissue massage is ideal for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in athletics or heavy occupational activity, and for patients who have sustained physical injury.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes. The five basic strokes are gliding, kneading, rhythmic tapping, friction and vibration/shaking.  Swedish massage reduces pain and joint stiffness, and it improves function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks.  It has also been shown to be helpful in individuals with poor circulation.

Cupping

This is “movement cupping” using silicone cups. When applied, a suction action inverts the soft tissue into the cup and releases it in a convex manner. Also increases blood and lymph vascular flow.

Thai Massage

Nuad Bo-Rarn (traditional Thai massage) follows a precise order of stretching and compression. Treats body, mind, and spirit.

Prenatal

Certified therapists will focus treatment on the concerns of the second and third trimesters, such as evolving body transformations.  After the mother has given birth, treatment will assist in restoring the body back to its normal condition. Prenatal massage may also help reduce and/or eliminate excess water retention.

Stones

Hot Stone Massage

Focused heat from basalt stones transfers into the soft tissue beneath it, warming and releasing tight musculature, increasing circulation. Works with neural limbic system for ultimate relaxation.

Himalayan Salt Stone

Acts the same as basalt stone. Plus, there are 84 trace minerals in Himalayan salt. So the benefit is remineralization of skin and muscles and a softness achieved in both because of the salt’s permeable character.
